What Is Acupuncture
Acupuncture involves the precise insertion of fine solid needles into anatomically defined sites. Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years. The list of benefits is long, but most importantly, it provides pain relief, improved sleep, increased blood flow, decreased muscle tension, relaxation, and improved performance and muscle awareness.
Electroacupuncture
A method of precise peripheral nerve stimulation. Acupuncture needles are inserted into anatomically defined neurofunctional sites, and stimulated with a small amount of electricity for the therapeutic purpose of regulating abnormal activity of the nervous system. It is helpful in the treatment of pain syndromes, functional problems, and any diseases in which nervous system abnormalities are present (a lot!). Neuroregulation occurs at multiple levels, namely: peripheral nerves, the spinal cord, and the brain. If you have every felt a TENS unit, it is a similar sensation - just on a deeper level.
Acupuncture at Elevate
Acupuncture treatments may be included as part of your typical Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, or Massage Therapy care, or as a stand-alone service. Session lengths can vary from anywhere between 15-30 minutes. Acupuncture sessions are provided by a clinician that has taken the required courses to be certified in providing Acupuncture. Although insurance coverage does vary, most often Acupuncture treatment falls under either your Physiotherapy, Chiropractic, or Massage Therapy coverage. In order to use coverage specifically for Acupuncture, you will need to seek the care of an Acupuncturist who is registered with The College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario.
