What is Ultrasound?
Therapeutic Ultrasound is the application of sound energy for therapeutic purposes. The sound produced by ultrasound is of a higher frequency than is detectable by humans and can penetrate into the tissue at depths of up to 5cm. This energy, when absorbed by the tissues, causes the molecules to vibrate.
What are the Benefits?
Some of the benefits of Ultrasound include increasing tissue temperature (heat), blood flow, collagen extensibility, enzyme activity, and cell permeability. These help to reduce pain and muscle spasm, as well as promote soft tissue and bone repair.
Does Insurance Cover Ultrasound?
Yes! Ultrasound would be included as part of your usual Physiotherapy or Chiropractic coverage.
